Public Works Role The primary responsibility of the Public Works Department is maintenance of approximately 254 miles of county roads and right of way. This includes maintenance of road signs, drainage, vegetation control and bridges. In addition, the refuse department and land fill are responsibilities of the Public Works Director. The Public Works Director also is the County's Safety Director.
